Another Super Moon! Watch the moon rise tonight and tomorrow for a spectacular view of the beloved heavenly body, peaking in Gemini. Opposing the Sun & Saturn in Sagittarius, this moon offers a pause for contemplation of on serious core matters of our personal views in relation to the colorful varieties of cultures the world over.

When you follow the arch of the Zodiac, Gemini represents the time in when we become self-aware as logical, independent thinkers, able to play with our mind and language, communicating our inner opinions with wit and depth. The ability to discuss, debate, and dissect topics is Gemini’s specialty. Gemini represents the ideas that are formed from our immediate environment; the local news, our tribe, friends, and relatives. This Mercury-ruled, mutable air sign, is the equal and opposite sign to the fire sign, Sagittarius.

Sagittarius is the mind expanded, like its ruling planet, Jupiter. Seeking higher truths, this sign expands past the confines of the immediate environment, moving from the realm of mind into the realm of spirit. This mystical portion of the Zodiac rules higher knowledge through global awareness; college, anthropology, world travel, philosophy, and religion.

The sun transiting here marks the time in American culture when that Santa archetype comes to the forefront in story and decoration. This large, benevolent, circumnavigating, generous, jolly-man is an embodied example of the best within the Sagittarian/Jupiterian archetype. It also highlights to world cultures and religions through preparation for the celebrations of holidays; Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, the Solstice, and more.

The axis of Sagittarius & Gemini has been called the “Axis of Innocent Play”, with natives of each sign forever possessing something playful and elf-like in their character, regardless of age. Great companion signs for one another, Gemini can show Sagittarius the finer points in things, pros and cons within broad, sweeping subjects. Sagittarius can open Gemini’s mind to higher possibilities and patterns they may have missed while clinging too tightly to their limited, single perspective.

Symbolically, Gemini as Twins, represents the dual nature of the mind, literally the right & left hemispheres of the brain; the “mental knowing” things as black or white, good or evil, positive and negative. Sagittarius, the Centaurian Archer, is the merger of dual things; the “lower”, animalistic nature of the self, and the “higher”, spiritual warrior aspect of self, the third eye.

Discernment of what benefits us and what doesn’t is valuable, until to goes too far into separating ourselves from each other and our true selves to the point of damage.  Sagittarius can bring us back together, representing the “spiritual knowing” of the inherent unity and perfection in all things. The lower self qualifies and protects the higher self, our negative experiences teach us our greatest lessons, and we know what we want in our lives by having experienced what we don’t want.

Regardless of your sign, we all share in the experience of  having a personal belief system, a sense of right and wrong based on where we come from, and with that; the opportunity to grow and expand to other versions or perspectives on truth. The Perennial philosophy points to all of the world religions sharing the same basic, fundamental truths that have been re-interpreted by generations and cultures around the world. Masked in different mythologies, they all fundamentally point to the same Divine Reality.

Setting Intentions: Open Your Mind

“Emancipate yourself from mental slavery,
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
‘Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look?
Some say it’s just a part of it,
We’ve got to fulfill the book.

Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
‘Cause all I ever have,
Redemption songs…”

– Redemption Song, Bob Marley

Do you find even the slightest bit of creeping prejudice within your mind; “those people are wrong because” or “this group of people are bad” type  of thinking? They say fear is born out of the unknown or unfamiliar. Try an experiment this Full Moon to broaden your perspective. Take time to learn about a religion, topic, political party, or group that you find yourself at odds with.

If possible, befriend a member of this group, and with an open mind, see if they can help you gain a clearer perspective on why they believe the things that they do. Be willing to release or let go any mental or emotional blocks that don’t hold up in the light of the information presented you. Writing and communication is one of the hallmarks of Mercury-ruled Gemini, and with Mercury going retrograde on the 19th, we are offered the opportunity to re-think, re-organize, and re-structure our belief systems and thought patterns.

Get closer to truth by considering what it is your fellow human beings hold true, no matter how different from your original perspective. We are much more than our limited belief and prejudices, and there is nothing to fear when exploring beyond what you have already learned.
